City of Ships

Home to Maine's Maritime Museum and deemed Maine's 'Cool Little City,' the small waterfront town of Bath nestled along the Kennebec River continues to sustain a bustling harbor. And, since we were driving through so many little towns, I decided it would be a good idea to take pictures of the "Welcome to..." signs or maps along the way to keep track of our journey.

Along the waterfront...

For lunch, we walked to the top of Centre Street to check out one of Maine's favorite local community spots - Mae's Cafe and Bakery. Joe focused on food a lot during this trip and wanted to enjoy a little bit of everything New England was known for so he ordered New England Clam Chowder at Mae's, while I enjoyed their homemade tarragon chicken salad. On the way out, we bought a fairly large pumpkin whoopie pie for later (a couple of days worth later!). As a New England phenomenon, this treat popped up at every bakery or cafe we stepped foot into so I felt like we had to buy one at some point. And, with Fall approaching, pumpkin seemed like a great choice. After lunch, we headed to Boothbay Harbor...look for that post next!

Before leaving, Joe made it a point to drive back to Mae's so I could snap a picture while I made it a point to capture every aspect of our trip.

The center of town...such a cute place!
