"Maine's Prettiest Village"

In an attempt to write and put together shorter blogs, I'm breaking up our Maine trip (back in September) into several short posts on little towns we visited while there. On our way back from Boothbay Harbor, we meandered through Wiscasset - it's said to be Maine's prettiest little town! The road back was a two lane - one lane each way - surrounded with water. And, even though the clouds were looming, we thought the view was GREAT! Trust me, the weather improved with each passing day.
The sky is trying to peak through!
Do you see the sliver of blue to the left in the second picture?

Once a major seaport town until the crippling Embargo Act of 1807, the streets of Wiscasset were and are still lined with several large, elegant, manor-style homes - one being Castle Tucker, Two Lee Street. Unfortunately, we missed the last tour of the mansion, but still snapped some exterior shots! I think we just tried to pack in too many things/towns all on the same day.
Anyway, during the town and shipping industry's peak, Judge Silas Lee originally built the house in 1807. Fast forward 50 years, Captain Richard Tucker - an heir to a Wiscasset shipping family - bought the property in the late 1850s and the Tucker family preserved the house for decades.
Currently owned by Historic New England and after more than 200 years, visitors can enjoy tours during prime season.

Some other historic places to visit include:
Red's Eats

Castle Tucker

We headed back along Route 1 to Portland, but made a stop along the way...
